Commentary To Books A Summer of Good-Byes (Blue Triangle Press Book 2)
PASSION IN PROVENCE:Ben and Lee Alto follow Van Gogh’s 19th century path to Provence, hoping to find inspiration for their own lives and give their son, Misha, some insight into a world completely different from their own. They find art, of course, and a world of beautiful landscapes, warm temperatures, and, yes, wonderful food. But they also find a ghost of their past, and it’s not Vincent Van Gogh but a woman Ben once loved and a man, Zach, a well-known jazz musician, who teach them some hard lessons about art and life, as well as the art of life.
A SUMMER OF GOOD-BYES resonates with the warmth of France’s southern sun, famous artists, and violent conflicts. It’s a vital, romantic story filled with the tensions of love and marriage, sexual longing and family loyalty, and the struggle to live in the face of impending death and loss.

A Summer of Good-Byes by Fred MisurellaStarts out with other works by the author and acknowledgements. Many different scenes while the adults have relationships with each other and others. Most dramatic one for me was 9/11 as I was not near NY but watched it live on tv after a golf game.So heartbreaking to hear how it effected the family that day.Love all the travel especially abroad as I will probably never get to experience it in my lifetime.Kind of confusing they go back to other relationshipsA Summer Of Good-Byes is a novel written with a meticulous eye for detail and realism, capturing the highs and lows of the main character, Ben. Ben hasnt had things easy. At the start of the story we follow him and his partner from the States to Russia, to collect their newly adopted orphan son as a baby. We learn about Bens relationship with his current partner and his previous love life, told in a beautiful and observant way. The story has a dreamy quality about it that I could describe as
The narrator of this story is an art critic and foster parent, with his fair share of lifes challenges, including infertility treatment, a miscarrying partner and living through the worry and anxiety of the 9/11 attack. The author writes in a tantalising way, making us readers have to piece together what is happening. He leaves sufficient space in his narrative, opting not to spoon-feed readers. Misurella maintains tension at just the right level, making you want to read on and discover more.

Taking in the scenery of the French countryside, trudging into thebowels of a Russian adoption agency, and living through 9/11.Proper prose coupled with developed characters, and a story ofwith extraordinary circumstances, love, loss and even a bit of arthistory. Makes this book a well-rounded, descriptive andinformative story, a first-person point of view and a handful ofplot twists, make for the reader and the main character a journeyworth knowing.
This is the second book Ive read by Misurella, and this one is equally well-researched and written. Misurella wraps us up in the world quickly, and the connection to the character really gets the books teeth sunk in deep. The pace is good for a 300+ page story, and the plot/arcs all tied up nicely. I will say that there is a bit of confusion on what drives these characters forward despite a solid arc. You kind of have to just pick up on it. Not all characters are developed equally. Its a small
The author's profile is extensive with Writing, Ancient Art and History. His characters seem to be bred in European countries and France is favored here. I enjoyed the background descriptions the romance of the places visited. All authentic and clear thoughts and imagination. Nothing seemed to be fake or uninteresting once I landed on a section of the book I could best relate.Provencal countryside of France depicts one of the most telling experiences one can have. Flawless location description
I love novels like this that focus on the relationships between people and how they grow and develop. They are relatable and it is so easy to find empathy with the characters. Through 'A Summer of Goodbyes' you do grow with the protagonists Ben and Lee as they grapple with their past struggles with adoption and fertility. They are hopeful with their chances of foreign adoption, and their family becomes complete with the addition of Misha. They take a family trip to France, so Misha can learn
