Criticize Based On Books Goodnight Punpun Omnibus, Vol. 1 (Goodnight Punpun Omnibus #1)
I don't know. I was expecting something racier for a start. This is an angst-ridden coming of age story that takes Punpun through approx. two years of his life starting with his father nearly killing his mother in a domestic dispute, spending time with his uncle while father is in jail and mother in hospital, his sexual awareness, first wet dream, first girlfriend, usual kid experiences and some not-so-usual weird experiences along the way. Pretty deep with a lot of existential thinking. I think

Aww, it is tough being a dumb little confused kid in a complicated world!Inio Asano made me not only read about but actually appreciate the internal lives of average grade school kids. That is real talent there.

Reread 11/21/2016, in prep for next volumes.3/27/2016 - I love Inio Asano's work, and there are many facets to his storytelling abilities. And this first volume of Goodnight Punpun is yet another side of Asano that we haven't really seen in his previous English-language releases. While the subject matter of this series isn't that different from young-protagonist-growing-up scenarios we find in Solanin and A Girl on the Shore, the tone is much more humorous, and explicitly so. The fact that the

Well, this was dark...and I loved it. Shocking~I really didn't know what I was getting myself into with this one other than the fact that two of my best friends have read the entire series and highly recommended it. I knew it was going to be dark and quirky and it really lived up to that expectation. I'm definitely interested in continuing with this series! Time for volume 2!

One of the best Bildungsroman novels I've read, let alone in graphic novel form, let alone a manga.Inio is on top form with Goodnight Punpun, his best yet.Even though some readers shy away from manga, assuming that all of the books are like Naruto or Death Note. However, if one has that mindset, you can miss many great books. Goodnight Punpun is a magic realism novel at its best; the closest books to Inio's masterpiece are Henry Roth's semi-autobiographical novel series (prose novels that have

Someone commented on my video saying this was 'accomplished but bizarre' and yeah, that's perfect. https://youtu.be/Tfn0wAZsEGI

i wasnt expecting to like the story but i did. there were weird things happening, some of which i do not understand. either that part is not related to the actual story but was included to the story itself. those left me confused but once everything goes back to normal, all was good again. this the perfect example of adults not thinking about how their actions will affect their kids. i hated punpun's mom. such a selfish human being. things certainly aren't always at it seems with the characters
