In 1935, the corpse of an unidentified man is found in a darkened alley in Puerto Rico. Olivia, the daughter of a police investigator, finds a bloodstained love letter in her father's coat after he comes home drunk one night. She is convinced it came from the deceased man and teams up with her friend Issac to deliver it to the Labyrinth of Love Letters. The only problem is even though they have heard of this place where lovers leave notes for one another, they have no idea of its location. AsThis has to be the most unique love and mystery book I have ever had the pleasure of reading. This story weaves several love stories together within it using a single love letter that is part of a murder investigation. I love how the passing of the letter brings forth a new tragic love story for each character and how there is also a mystery linked to it. I got this books by @booktasters from twitter to write a review, but as it isn't published by now I won't go further into detail with the content of the book as I want to avoid any spoilers. dnf @ 36% i don't think i'm the right target audience for this... whereas i'm not averse to romantic books and relationships in novels, the whole idea of this was... dying for love, living for love, doing everything for love... all the plot surrounded that basic idea, and that is Not My Thing at all. i'm not rating it because i don't think it was objectively bad, it was just not my cup of tea.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The Last Valentine is set in Puerto Rico near the start of the Twentieth Century.
